We, the undersigned, petition Gov. Phil Murphy to save Hoboken’s proposed contiguous, public waterfront park — 30 years in the making — by locating the proposed ferry maintenance/refueling facility at a site far more suitable for such purpose.
Studies by NJ Transit and the City of Hoboken rank the Hoboken Terminal, owned by NJ Transit and designated for transportation purposes, as the optimal location. The NJT study ranked two Weehawken sites as the 2nd & 3rd best locations. All of these sites would save NJ Transit the $12 million required to acquire the Union Dry Dock property.
The City of Hoboken and its elected officials are committed to making the Union Dry Dock property part of its waterfront park, thus fulfilling this 30-year old vision. This goal is overwhelmingly supported by residents of the Hoboken area who flock to this unique spot for kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, skateboarding, running, strolling and other recreational purposes.
